Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) exam

The Scrum Master exam is an assessment in the English language where you must correctly answer 68 out of 80 multiple choice questions to pass and anyone can take this exam. But how can you prepare for the exam and how does the exam work?

Preparation for the Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) exam

This can be done in the following ways:

  • Study the ScrumGuide. This is the primary source of the exam answers. Read the Scrum Guide several times and continue to use it as your main reference. The information density is high. Keep discovering what Scrum is and what it can mean.
  • Study the Scrum Glossary. Learn the definitions of important terms. Research those terms so that you can really understand and apply them.
  • Study the Professional Scrum Developer Glossary. Learn the definitions of important terms. Research those terms so that you can really understand and apply them.
  • follow it Scrum Master Learning Path. It contains a lot of good and current content. Select items that are most valuable to you.
  • take the mock exam, Scrum Open assessment, as many times as necessary until you consistently score 100%. Please note: the Open assessment is shorter, easier and you give you more time per question than the real exam!
  • Of course through the Professional Scrum Master PSM-1 training at D-ICT Solutions!

Tips for the Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) exam

  • Answer about 12 questions on average every 20 minutes. So do not dwell too long on questions that you are unsure about, but answer them and mark them. Ideally, you have the last 10 minutes to make any corrections.
  • Answer all questions. No answer is always wrong. A guessed answer may be correct.
  • Pay attention to whether multiple answer options are asked.
  • Be very careful about looking up answers. You have (almost) no time for that and there are, in addition to reliable, also many unreliable sources with, for example, outdated information.
  • Make sure you answer the questions from the Scrum Master perspective. The Scrum Master is ultimately responsible for Scrum and the effectiveness of the Scrum Team. But the Scrum Master serves the Scrum Team, The Product Owner and the Organization, each of which has its own final responsibilities. The Scrum Master is not the manager of the Scrum Team because it has no hierarchies but is a cohesive unit of professionals.
