ITIL 4: flexible value creation As I wrote in my previous blog: current developments in IT make it necessary to update ITIL. Have you not read the first blog yet? Click on this link. Today I am going to tell you something about the changes that you will encounter in ITIL 4. dictsolutions-ITIL4-flexible-value-creation The current ITIL version is built around the lifecycle of IT services and describes many useful processes to shape this lifecycle. This has led to a globally recognized best practice that continues to prove itself every day in organizations. The achievements of ITIL will not disappear with version 4. However, the focus is changing: less focused on process descriptions and more on flexible working methods. What are the customer's needs? How can you provide for this with smaller steps? How do you get results quickly? Even more important than in the current ITIL version: creating value for your customer. Flexibility has to do with changes. Change is a constant. That sounds contradictory, but it is a daily reality in many organizations. If these changes take place more quickly, IT services will have to respond to them. Many organizations struggle with this and more and more they opt for “agile” approaches. With this they want to be “more agile”, agile instead of unwieldy and immobile. The new ITIL 4 will facilitate this and make the link to popular approaches such as Devops and Lean. Being able to actually work “agile” will increasingly be of decisive importance. The context of ITIL is expanding. A broader management area is covered and ITIL becomes more interesting for more people. The emphasis is on business processes and how you can support them with technology. The question is how this technology functions now and what will be needed in the near future. Many sectors are truly undergoing a digital transformation. ITIL 4 will immediately pay attention from the basic level to the importance of collaboration, transparency and where possible automate the service. In addition, ITIL 4 has an even more holistic approach than it does now: all aspects of IT services are viewed in conjunction. The input of people, technology and resources are carefully attuned to each other. By starting with the qualities that ITIL has developed over the years, this new version will be a logical step. If you have acquired knowledge of ITIL before, you can effortlessly continue to use it in your work. The new ITIL 4 will also offer options for a smooth transition to the new schedule so that you can take maximum advantage of the new insights. In my next blog I will provide information about the new certification scheme: all possible modules that will be developed in the course of the coming year and how to find your way around them, even if you are already somewhat advanced in the current modules. It is highly recommended to take a good look at this: sometimes it is wise to continue in the current ITIL certification.
